new voice on THE TIME GARDEN—Welcome Tracey Darling

Town

Yippidy doo and yackity yae
Been funging the fu
And yanging the shuei
Got it tumbling and bumbling and turning around
Been dropping off words
and hitting the town
The rain is still falling
But the sun’s on the rise
The keys are all aching
with tears in their eyes
blurting and squirting
like the land of great lakes
afloat in a sea
of endless myflakes
tho’ once in awhile
there comes up from the waves
to beat on the bow
of the musical knaves
a fathom or fountain
or chain of small gods
dipping their feet
in the green of the sod
to wander the squander the tour of manure
discovering Mermaids in Mexican sewers
Communities shrink
as magic expands
when the power of ink
meets the will of the hand
while will of hand meets possession of mind
thus is the magic
of good space and time
So, yippidy doo and yackity yae
Keep funging the fu
And yinging the shuei
As it tumbles and bumbles
and spirals around
The words drop themselves
And you live in the town
